What does "a desktop pet from a photo" mean?
A photo-based desktop pet uses your image as a reference for an animated companion. PetPal prepares the animation frames and packages them for its desktop app. You supply the photo and choose the available pet type and style.
The deliverable is an importable package. A still image or a short animation in your browser does not, by itself, place a pet on your desktop: you also need the desktop app that runs the package.
1. Prepare a clear pet photo
Start with a photo where the whole animal is visible. Keep the head, ears, legs, and tail in the frame. Choose even lighting and a sharp image, with the pet separated clearly from the background. If several animals appear together, use a photo focused on the one you want to create.
You do not need to draw sprites or prepare a transparent background. The upload form accepts PNG, JPG, and WebP files up to 8MB. Keep the original photo handy in case you need to select another image.
A generated pet is an interpretation of that reference. Its outline, markings, proportions, and motion can differ from the original. A clear photo helps describe the animal you want; it does not guarantee an exact recreation.

2. Upload the photo and create your order
Open the create page, enter the pet's name and your delivery email, then choose the animal type and visual style. The form includes cats, dogs, rabbits, birds, and an Other option, with Realistic and Cartoon styles.
Submit the photo and keep the order details. Use an email address you can access, because it is used for delivery and order support. Follow any upload error shown on the page before continuing.
3. Complete payment to unlock the preview
After upload, continue to checkout. The current listed price is US$10 for one custom desktop pet package, with no subscription for that desktop pack. Review the checkout details before paying.
The generated preview is locked until payment is confirmed. You cannot inspect the finished animation first and then decide whether to buy it. Once the result is available and unlocked, check the outline, likeness, and motion. If there is a problem, contact support with your order details and describe what you see.
4. Download the package and import it
When the order is ready, use its delivery information to obtain your .petpet file and the appropriate PetPal Desktop installer. Choose the Mac installer for a Mac, or the Windows installer for a Windows computer. Keep the order email and a local copy of your package.
Install and open PetPal Desktop. Use the tray or menu action called Import .petpet, then select the package you downloaded. Keep the .petpet file available for future imports. If the app cannot open it, check that you selected the package rather than the preview image.

Using a screenshot from a chat app
Messaging apps heavily compress photos. A screenshot from WhatsApp or iMessage will have far less detail than the original photo file. Always use the original image from your camera roll.
Uploading a photo with multiple pets
The AI needs to identify a single subject. If two cats or a cat and a dog appear in the same frame, the result may blend features from both animals unpredictably. Crop to a single pet before uploading.
Skipping the preview review
If the unlocked preview shows a misaligned walk cycle or unclear silhouette, contact support with the order ID and try a clearer source photo for the next run.
Choosing the wrong animal type
The animal type selection (Cat, Dog, Rabbit, Bird, Other) tells the AI what body structure to expect. Selecting "Cat" for a dog photo will still produce a result, but the animation proportions will be optimized for a feline body plan.
