Desktop pet guide

How to make a desktop pet from your own photo

A desktop pet is more useful when it looks like a real companion you already know. PetPal Studio turns one clear pet photo into a private animated .petpet file you can import into the Mac or Windows app.

PetPal Studio desktop pet preview on Mac and Windows

1. Prepare a clear pet photo

Use a photo where the pet is visible, sharp, and not hidden behind furniture, hands, or heavy shadows. A simple background helps the AI separate the pet from the scene. Front or three-quarter photos usually work better than extreme side views.

Good

Full body or clear upper body, bright lighting, simple background.

Avoid

Motion blur, tiny subjects, heavy occlusion, screenshots from far away.

Best use

Cats, dogs, rabbits, birds, and other pets with clear outlines.

2. Generate the desktop pet pack

Upload the photo on PetPal Studio, choose the animal type, and wait for the preview. The generation pipeline creates a sprite sheet, slices it into frames, stabilizes the motion, and packages everything into a .petpet file.

You can preview the result before paying. Payment unlocks the private download links for the desktop app and the generated .petpet file.

3. Import the .petpet file

After payment, download PetPal Desktop for your system. Install the Mac or Windows app, then download your .petpet file from the success page or email. Open PetPal Desktop and import the file to place the animated pet on your desktop.
